One of Rittenhouse’s attorneys, Corey Chirafisi, asked Anmol during cross-examination why he would simply leave the properties unattended during the third night of civil unrest in Kenosha after the police shooting against Jacob Blake. But the testimony of the Khindri brothers on Friday contradicted these statements. Rittenhouse and Dominick Black, a friend who was accompanying him at the time, had previously said they were in Kenosha that evening because the owners of Car Source had asked them to keep the properties. Sahil, who posed for a photo outside Car Source with Rittenhouse and a group of heavily armed civilians, said he did not know any of the men at the time. The Khindri brothers explained that their parents owned three car-related properties along Sheridan Road in downtown Kenosha, and the two brothers had arrived at their parents’ house that day to inspect the damage from the previous nights. He pleaded not guilty and said he opened fire in self-defense because the men were chasing him. Rittenhouse is accused of shooting two men, including one in a Car Source parking lot, and injuring a third. Rittenhouse defense attorneys sought to portray their client as a Good Samaritan who offered much needed protection to a family business that had requested it.

The testimony of the Khindri brothers is important to prosecutors’ efforts to portray Rittenhouse as a vigilante who recklessly and needlessly put an AR-15 rifle in a dangerous situation. Sahil and Anmol Khindri both said they met Rittenhouse and other gunmen on August 25, 2020, the day of the shooting, but only briefly.
